The North Carolina Federal Interagency Committee (FIC) was created to coordinate data activities within North Carolina between Federal agencies and other geographic data users and distributors represented on the GICC.
Federal agencies, together with State and Local governmental units, contribute to GIS partnerships that can only be fully and practically utilized with a statewide focus and cooperative effort. The National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) provides guidelines for acquiring, processing, storing, distributing and increasing the utilization of geographic data. To maximize benefits and minimize redundancy of data activities, procedures for distribution, standards, funding and data collection should involve coordination with Federal agencies operating in the state.
All federal employees are welcome to participate in the FIC, whether or not they currently use geographic information systems in their workplace. To sign up for the FIC list serv (news, announcements, peer-to-peer problem solving), click
