Committees
The work of the NC Geographic Information Coordinating Council is carried out through its committee structure. Often, working groups or special ad hoc committees are formed around an issue.

Standing Committees and their responsibilities include:
Federal Interagency Committee (FIC)
Members of the committee include representatives from all interested federal agencies and Tribal governments with an office located in North Carolina. The chair of this committee is the federal representative appointed by the Governor.

Local Government Committee (LGC)
Members are from organizations and professional associations that serve or represent local government, the North Carolina League of Municipalities, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, and Lead Regional Organizations. The committee elects one of its members to serve on the GICC.

State Government GIS Users Committee (SGUC)
Membership is open to all interested State government employees. Members of the Executive Committee are appointed by department officials who serve ex officio on the GICC. The committee chair is appointed by the Chair of the GICC.

Statewide Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC)
This committee works with data content standards, consolidates statewide mapping requirements, seeks support for financing cooperative programs, and advises the GICC on problems and opportunities relating to geospatial data programs. The committee chair is appointed by the Chair of the GICC.

GIS Technical Advisory Committee (GIS TAC)
This committee, chaired by a GICC member, meets as needed to review and recommend specifications related to hardware, software and database standards as well as approaches or guidelines for developing, installing, and managing the components of GIS infrastructure.

Management and Operations Committee (M&O)
The Chair of the GICC heads this subcommittee, which includes the State Budget Officer, the chair of each of the standing GICC subcommittees, and other members appointed by the Chair. The Committee meets when necessary to provide advice and support to the GICC on organizational and programmatic matters concerning policy, management, and operations of geographic information, geographic information systems (GIS) and related technology.

Committees
Working Groups are appointed by committee chairs to focus on specific long-term issues and report to that committee. Ad hoc Committees are established by the GICC Chair as needed, and report directly to the GICC. Current active groups include:
